Looking back on 2023

This year was all about animals: rooks on a postcard and squirrels, a dog and hares made from origami, among other things. Especially hares. The hare is my favourite. The hare is a common motif in art, and I understand why. For me, its appeal lies mainly in its ears. Of all the origami animals I have folded so far, the hare is also the most photogenic. Many animals only look attractive from one angle, depending on their shape and residual forms. The hare is interesting when viewed from all angles. You can vary the position of the ears and, depending on how you fold it, it sits more or less upright.
The rooks on the postcard are by Floris Verster; I had had the idea for the painting in my head for a while and when Museum Belvédère asked me for an exhibition about death, that was the moment to actually make it.
