In my work, I like to shine a spotlight on patterns in everyday life; things we tend to overlook, presented in such a way that you do stop to think about them. Everyday objects such as caravans, sockets, Ikea furniture, postcards and packets of butter raise questions for me about (good) taste, authenticity, consumer society and the choices we make.

I mainly create paintings, sometimes drawings and occasionally prints. My technique is fairly traditional; you might almost think I’m a fine artist. However, I don’t aim for the most lifelike representation of reality; my interest lies in reality itself, often particularly in those aspects that cause friction. What strikes me are people’s behaviours, stereotypes, the desire to be part of a group whilst at the same time wanting to escape it, to stand out. I advocate – almost explicitly through my way of painting – for more beauty in life, more attention, less carelessness.

Working in series has consistently proved to be my approach. A series of works together reinforces the content. The subject also serves as a framework for my exploration of painting itself.

In 2005, I graduated from the Fine Art department of the Arnhem Academy of Art and Design. Since then, I have lived and worked in Groningen, where I previously completed a degree in Business Economics.
