I mainly make paintings, sometimes drawings and occasionally something graphic. My technique is quite classic, you would almost think that I am a genre painter.
However, I absolutely do not strive for a true-to-life representation of reality. I am interested in reality itself, and especially in the part we prefer to ignore. I put together the images I paint like a collage. My work has a distinct atmosphere and there is always a sense of stillness.
I have a special choice of subjects; everyday objects such as caravans, sockets and furniture from both IKEA. They raise questions about (good) taste, authenticity, consumer society and the choices we (don't) make. The common thread in all my work is amazement about the difference between the ideal world and reality. Above all, the discrepancy between the human pursuit of uniqueness on the one hand and our herd behavior and fashion sensitivity on the other.
After studying Business Economics in Groningen, I went to the School of the Arts in Arnhem. In 2005 I graduated from the Free Art department. Since then I live and work in Groningen again.
