Looking back on 2015

In 2015, I continued working on the furniture series.
Ikea has products that I feel half of the Netherlands has in their homes; they have truly become classics. The wooden stool, the “Bekväm”, can be seen everywhere.
I also captured the bench with the removable cover, the “Klippan”. I made several paintings of both the stool and the bench, each with a different wallpaper as a background, as a small selection of the thousands of households in which they can be found. I painted a red, white and blue version of the locker cabinet, the three colours in which it was sold.
In addition to these Ikea classics, I also painted a number of designer furniture pieces that you will find in just about any interior design magazine: Piet Hein Eek's scrap wood cabinet, Fritz Hansen/Arne Jacobsen's Egg Chair and Hella Jongerius' Poldersofa. Each and every one of them is a beautiful piece of furniture.
What is interesting about these is that both Hella Jongerius and Piet Hein Eek have also designed products for Ikea. The former designed a vase that is now for sale on Marktplaats for a considerably higher price than it was originally purchased for: an Ikea vase has become a collector's item.
